Music, Campaigns & More
Doug Kennedy’s creative journey extends beyond books and photography. This page brings together the many threads that influence his work — from environmental advocacy to folk music and cultural exploration.
If you’re curious about the man behind the camera and the words, here’s where you’ll find the rest of the story.
Environmental Campaigns
Doug is deeply involved in efforts to restore the River Thame and protect England’s rare chalk streams. Through public speaking, writing, and community organising, he raises awareness of:
- Water pollution & biodiversity loss
- Infrastructure challenges facing rivers
- Grassroots restoration projects
He has worked with groups such as the River Thame Conservation Trust and the Chiltern Society’s Chalk Rivers Action Group.

Campaigning for Rivers
My environmental work focuses on protecting and restoring English chalk streams, with particular attention to the River Thame. Through lectures, photography and advocacy, I aim to raise awareness of these rare and threatened ecosystems.
I invite you to join me in supporting these vital lifelines. Together, through community action, storytelling and education, we can help restore what has been lost and safeguard these rivers for the future.
Current Activities
On the first Saturday of each month I monitor the River Thame at Nether Winchendon for pollutants, including nitrates, phosphates and turbidity. Nitrates have been very high for a long time, and phosphates spike intermittently- this is probably sewage works output. Turbidity was bad last autumn and winter, and we don’t know why, but I’m looking out for it!
I have met with local politicians (MPs and Bucks councillors) and am building support for raising funds for a research project into the exact causes and sources of pollution.

- An event that makes people happy, and the bar is cheap, and there’s free parking!
- If you perform music with a folkie flavour, come and play for us!

Doug’s travels — mostly by foot and public transport — have taken him across Europe. His journeys inspire much of his photography and blog content. Destinations explored include:
